Dealing with Disappointment
Share:
I unashamedly love Easter and in particular I love Easter eggs. My guilty pleasure would be cadburys cream eggs. On Sunday morning we received 9 eggs and I am already thinking of who I can share them with!
Judah & I were talking about Easter eggs this week and he told me about when he was a kid, he felt disappointed when he realised that an Easter egg was just a hollow chocolate egg and not made of solid chocolate! Have you ever felt that same disappointment? It got me thinking about this word disappointment. What does it even mean? The dictionary says it means: ‘sadness caused by the non-fulfilment of someone’s hopes or expectations.’
This past 12 months our world has had to face disappointment on many levels. We have all had to face disappointment in one shape or another.
Disappointment of not being able to see loved ones
Disappointment of not being able to get married
Disappointment of not being able to go to school or Uni
Disappointment of cancelled holidays or travelling
Disappointment of not being able to have a graduation or a prom
Disappointment of not being able to have a proper funeral to celebrate a loved ones life
Disappointment of a business closing down or losing a job
Disappointment of having a new baby and not being able to introduce them to your world of people
Disappointment of being unwell
The list goes on for this past year! As we have just had Easter, I have been thinking about the ladies who were close to Jesus when he died. I put myself in the shoes of how Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome must have felt the day Jesus was crucified. The Sadness and disappointment that these ladies must have felt at losing Jesus, at him being crucified on a cross when he had done nothing wrong. I can’t even imagine how they must have felt.
From the time when Jesus died, these ladies would have carried huge disappointment, without knowing that hope was just days away. They didn’t know that hope was just around the corner. They had no clue that hope was ready to invade their lives. As I have been thinking about these ladies, I felt the Holy Spirit speak to me and say that he wants to trade peoples’ disappointment for hope.
He wants you to know that hope isn’t just around the corner when COVID is all over, and everything seems back to normal; but it’s here for you right now.
Jesus’ hope for provision, Jesus’ hope for healing, Jesus’ hope for work, Jesus’ hope for restoration in that relationship, Jesus’ hope for your kids, Jesus’ hope for your marriage, Jesus’ hope for your future and Jesus’ hope that all will be well. It’s here today, and it’s a free gift from Jesus that you can accept afresh or even accept for the first time today.
What is this gift of hope? The dictionary says hope is a feeling of trust and a feeling of expectation for a particular thing to happen.
This hope is found by trusting that Jesus died on the cross and that he ROSE AGAIN. It is a confident belief that God is faithful and that He will complete what He has begun.
Today GOD wants to trade all your disappointments that you may have been carrying this past year (or perhaps for even longer) for fresh hope.
A true hope that can only be found in knowing Jesus and having a relationship with him. A true hope that will never leave you or give up on you. A true hope that will bring you total peace and unconditional love.
Will you chose to receive this gift of hope today?
